| NORTHLINK DRIVEN TO HELP MOTOR SHOW SUCCEED | |
| 26 May 2004 The car decks of NorthLink ferries Hrossey and
Hamnavoe will assume the appearance of car museums temporarily next week as
classic motor vehicles from around the UK make the journey north to the Shetland
Classic Motor Show.
The ferry company is the show’s main sponsor and has granted a 30% discount to passengers and vehicles travelling to Shetland to attend, and exhibit at, the biennial show. The show takes place at the Clickimin Centre in Lerwick on Saturday 5 June and Sunday 6 June. More people than ever before are booked to attend this year’s event - the 11th such motor show - with more than 100 classic cars, motorcycles and trucks being exhibited over the two days. Over the next few days, in addition to the usual collection of islander traffic and holidaymakers, NorthLink’s vessels will be transporting some very special vehicles to the county, including a 1913 Rudge Multi motorcycle and a 1924 Cluley two-seater car. More than 170 passengers will sail to Shetland to attend the classic motor show, which is expected to attract in excess of 3000 visitors from within the county itself. Maurice Mullay of the motor show’s organising committee, commented: “NorthLink’s sponsorship of the Show has been a major factor in bringing more people from Scotland and England than ever before to our event. The company’s enthusiastic co-operation for the show in bringing such a varied and precious collection of vehicles to the islands has been magnificent, even to the point of scheduling an additional freight trip to the islands to accommodate all the visitors and vehicles. Their support is greatly appreciated. The visitors and people of Shetland are in for a great show, thanks to NorthLink.” | |
