| NORTHLINK IN CRUISE CONTROL TO CELEBRATE STROMNESS SHOPPING WEEK | |
| 04 July 2004 NorthLink will join in the festivities of Stromness Shopping Week this month by hosting a fundraising cruise to mark the annual gala week originally designed to attract shoppers to the town. The cruise, which will set sail on the afternoon of Monday, July 19 is a charity event, with all proceeds being donated to the Stromness Shopping Week Committee and RNLI (Stromness Ladies Lifeboat Guild). Elaine Tulloch, marketing projects manager with NorthLink, said: “Stromness Shopping Week was first held in 1949 and it is wonderful to be part of such a long-standing tradition. The event has become a fantastic summer celebration encompassing all aspects of life in the county and we hope our cruise will add another dimension to the comprehensive schedule of events taking place throughout the week.” A total of 500 tickets are available for the cruise, during which guests will enjoy refreshments, a finger buffet featuring a selection of Orkney produce, whilst being entertained by traditional Orcadian music. The Shopping Week Queen will be on-board the cruise. Stromness Shopping Week chairwoman Isobel Wishart, said: “The cruise being laid on by NorthLink is a most welcome addition to the programme of events already in place during Shopping Week and will help raise valuable funds, both for the Stromness Ladies Lifeboat Guild and for future Shopping Weeks. With tickets so reasonably priced and a wonderful buffet menu on offer during the cruise, we’re expecting a high attendance for this inaugural event.” Guests will board the cruise at Stromness terminal at 1400 prompt. MV Hamnavoe will then depart at 1430, and follow a cruise route to the Old Man of Hoy, weather permitting, before returning to Stromness at 1545. Tickets are available now from NorthLink’s offices in both Kirkwall and Stromness. Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions and will be available for sale until 17 July. | |
