BREAKFAST AT SEA IN AID OF CANCER CHARITY
14 March 2006

Breakfast will be the most important meal of the day on Friday, March 31, as NorthLink Ferries is pledging to donate all breakfast takings to Cancer Research UK (Scotland).

Restaurants on-board NorthLink’s three passenger vessels – Hamnavoe, Hrossey and Hjaltland – will offer a special breakfast menu featuring locally sourced ingredients, such as potato scones, scrambled eggs and delicious Shetland smoked salmon.

The NorthLink breakfast events have been organised in conjunction with the leading UK cancer charity’s nationwide campaign, Britain’s Biggest Breakfast. All proceeds from the NorthLink breakfasts, which cost £5 per head, will go to Cancer Research UK (Scotland).

The opportunity to enjoy an onboard breakfast is not limited to those passengers sailing with NorthLink on March 31– the ferry operator is extending an invitation to members of the public to come aboard the MV Hrossey in Aberdeen at 7.30am and MV Hjaltland in Lerwick at 8.00am.  The charity breakfast menu will also be available on MV Hamnavoe during the 6.30am sailing from Stromness and the 8.45am sailing out of Scrabster.

Elaine Tulloch marketing projects manager with NorthLink Ferries, said: “We ran similar events for our passengers at the same time last year and they were a resounding success, raising more than £1,514 for Cancer Research.  We are eager to improve on that figure this year and we are appealing for as many people as possible to come along, support the event, and enjoy the breakfast.

“In addition to the various breakfast options on offer we will be providing information on Cancer Research UK and the public will have the opportunity to make a donation to the charity whilst on board.

“I would like to thank Aberdeen-based Craig Group’s Catering and Marine Services for their support in this fundraising initiative and for their generous donation.  I also wish to thank NorthLink staff and crew who have made this possible. We look forward to welcoming guests aboard on Friday, March 31.”

For security reasons, NorthLink requests that all those wishing to attend the breakfasts in Aberdeen and Lerwick contact the company to reserve places.  This can be done by telephone, on either 01856 885 500 or 0845 6000 449 or via the booking page on NorthLink’s website at www.northlinkferries.co.uk/bigbreakfast2006.html
