| NORTHLINK’S HOT WHEELS MISSION ACCOMPLISHED | |
| 19 June 2008 NorthLink Ferries, which has been running the lifeline ferry services from the Scottish mainland to the Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland since 2002, has just completed its most unusual mission to date with classic cars, lorries, buses and motorcycles worth in excess of £3 million successfully shipped to and from Europe’s most Northerly classic car show. The Shetland Classic Motor Show, held once every two years in Lerwick, attracted over 300 vehicles from all over the UK and Europe. The show took place last weekend and throughout this week (w/c June 9) crews on NorthLink’s ro-ro ferries Hrossey and Hjaltland, have been involved in the delicate task of transporting fleets of classics including Bentleys, Lagondas, examples of the ultra-rare Bean marque and hundreds of motorcycle entries back to the mainland. NorthLink, which offered discounted fares to the hundreds of motor enthusiasts who made the trip North, was one of the show’s major sponsors. NorthLink chief executive Bill Davidson said: “The event was a massive success and a credit to the Shetland Classic Car and Motor Cycle clubs. We carried about 300 passengers associated with the show and, literally, hundreds of precious vehicles. On Monday alone we reckon that we had cars worth over £2million on board MV Hrossey. Thankfully, we didn’t hit any unexpected weather!” | |
