NorthLink Orkney and Shetland Freight - Ship History
HILDASAY
Hildasay is a 7,606 GT Ro-Ro ferry which was built in 1999 by Astilleros de Huelva SA, Huelva, Spain as the LEILI for the Estonian Shipping Company, Tallinn.
She was renamed PORT EVERGLADES EXPRESS between 2002 - 2005 during a charter to Crowley Maritime, reverting to LEILI when the charter ended.
In 2005, she was sold to Greece and renamed RR SHEILD. In 2008, she was sold to Seatruck Ferries, Heysham and renamed SHEILD.
In January 2010 she was chartered to Northlink Ferries in order to travel between Aberdeen, Orkney and Shetland and was renamed HILDASAY.
HELLIAR
Helliar is the sister ship to Hildasay. Helliar was built in 1997 by Astilleros de Huelva SA, Huelva, Spain as the LEHOLA for the Estonian Shipping Company, Tallinn.
In 2005, Lehola was sold to Elmira Shipping, Greece. She was renamed RR Truimph and reflagged to Malta, her homeport changing from Tallinn to
Valetta. She was then chartered to P&O Ferries and put into service on the Liverpool - Dublin route before being chartered to Spain in 2007.
In 2007, she was sold to Seatruck Ferries, Heysham and was soon after renamed CLIPPER RACER. During this time she was chartered to Condor Ferries and put into service between Portsmouth and the Channel Islands, to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and put into service on the Heysham - Douglas route and was put into service on Seatruck's Liverpool – Dublin route. In 2009 she was chartered to Baleària.
In January 2011 she was chartered to Northlink Ferries, serving Orkney and Shetland, and renamed HELLIAR.
