NorthLink Ferries limited is the new company that has taken on the contract to operate the Northern Isles lifeline ferry services. The new company Northlink Ferries Limited, is a wholly owned subsidiary of David MacBrayne Ltd, whose sole shareholder is Scottish Ministers. David MacBrayne Limited was a dormant company, wholly owned by Scottish Ministers, which has been activated to become the parent company of the Northern Isles contract. David MacBrayne Limited now owns Northlink Ferries Limited and remains in the ownership of Scottish Ministers, as does Caledonian MacBrayne Limited which is a separate Company.
The new company has been formed following the successful bid by Caledonian MacBrayne for the contract to run the Orkney and Shetland routes. NorthLink Ferries Limited takes over the service from the previous operator NorthLink Orkney & Shetland Ferries Ltd. NorthLink Ferries Limited is registered in Scotland (SC27370) and has its registered office at Holmsgarth Terminal, Holmsgarth Road, Lerwick, Shetland Islands, ZE1 OPR.
The new company will continue to sail under the NorthLink Ferries brand and will continue to operate the MV Hjaltland, MV Hrossey and MV Hamnavoe on the Orkney and Shetland routes. The company will continue to operate from offices in Kirkwall, Lerwick and Aberdeen and from the ferry terminals at Scrabster and Stromness.
While customers are assured of a seamless transition to the new operation, there should be no doubt that the arrival of NorthLink Ferries Limited, heralds an exciting new chapter for the ferry services to the Orkney and Shetland islands.
