Cabin Types
All cabins on board NorthLink Ferries ships have en-suite washbasin, toilet and shower facilities and are linked by telephone to the ships’ reception desk.
A cabin service facility can be made available on request.
Premium cabins
Premium cabins have been introduced on all our routes and come equipped with satellite TV and DVD, tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary chocolates and mineral waters. These have the same layout as the two-berth outside cabins as described below.
Four-berth inside cabin
Our four-berth cabins have two lower fixed berths and two pull down bunks accessed by a fitted ladder. They are great for families and visitors travelling in groups.
Four-berth cabin with TV/DVD
From 2007, a number of four-berth cabins have been fitted with TV and DVD player. These cost a little more but offer the opportunity for in-cabin entertainment – take your own films, hire on board or plug in your playstation!
Two-berth outside cabin
Our two-berth cabins benefit from a large window giving natural light and as such do feel more spacious. They have two fixed beds side by side as well as the usual ensuite facility.
Executive cabin
Executive cabins are ideal if you are travelling for business or would like that little extra work space. They have one fixed bunk and one pull down bunk, and benefit from a large window for natural light. Each cabin has a large writing desk, tea and coffee making facilities, LCD TV with DVD player, complimentary chocolates and newspapers.
Purpose-built cabins for those with restricted mobility
A number of cabins on each ship have been fitted out to better suit those with restricted mobility. These are generally more spacious with easy access doors, bed hoists, toilet and shower facilities. These cabins also have special assistance alarms. We would advise passengers with disabilities to make an early enquiry regarding availability of the special cabins as there are only a limited number on each ship.
Cabin share scheme – buy a berth rather than a whole cabin
For those not wishing exclusive use of a cabin, and willing to share either an outside or inside cabin with other travellers of the same gender, we allow a berth rather than a cabin to be booked, giving a lower cost option for a very comfortable overnight bed. Berth prices start from £18.40.
Reclining chairs
For those passengers wishing to travel without on board overnight accommodation, the ticket price can include access to our recliner lounges. Seats should be booked at time of reservation. Blankets and pillows can be hired on board.
Cabins on the Scrabster-Stromness route
On MV Hamnavoe, sailing on the short crossing between Scrabster and Stromness, there is a similar range of comfortable cabins available. These are available at special prices for the short crossing or, in the summer months, for passengers travelling on the first crossing out of Stromness at 0630, can be booked on a bed and breakfast basis, boarding the previous evening between 2130 and 2330.
