Shetland Food Festival

Shetland produces some wonderful food: exceptional lamb, fine beef, superbly fresh fish and shellfish and some more unusual specialties such as seawater oatcakes, Shetland Black potatoes and more-ish fudge!

We felt that a celebration of all this was long overdue, so the first-ever Shetland Food Festival was held in early October 2008. This year the festival is due to take place between Saturday 6 and Sunday 14 November 2010. We hope you’ll be able to join us then.

Please visit www.shetlandfoodfestival.co.uk to find out more.

The Shetland Food Directory

Our islands are a patchwork of moorland and meadow surrounded by sheltered voes and wild ocean. It’s no wonder that we’re able to catch, grow and harvest some of the purest and tastiest food you can find. From the land come lamb and mutton, beef, milk, and vegetables and even a little fruit. The seas produce fish and shellfish in great variety.
That’s not all you’ll find in the Shetland larder. There’s bread, butter, yogurt and beer as well as chocolates and fudge. There are local specialities too, such as reestit mutton, which has been salted and air-dried.
It is now easier to track down good food in Shetland than ever before, thanks to The Shetland Food Directory. Available in booklet form and also online, it lists producers, suppliers and places to eat.
We hope you enjoy the wonderful food that Shetland has to offer.
