Security Operative, Aberdeen

Serco are recruiting for a Security Operative to join the NorthLink Ferries team based in Aberdeen.  

The key purpose of the role is to provide access control to the Port Facility and any vessel berthed within the port facility in accordance with the UK Department for Transport, Maritime Security Resilience Division (MSRD) Security Instructions and Operations Manual. This role will also include maintaining records of security incidents and search records and to ensure paperwork and other information is maintained for inspection. The role promotes the highest standard of customer service consistently and accurately.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Monitor and maintain access control to the Serco NorthLink Ferries Port Facility.
  • Record and uphold detailed records of activities and incidents.
  • Review and consider development opportunities in Security provision at Aberdeen.
  • Report and observe any developing security incidents within the Port Facilities.
  • Baggage handling and supporting customers. 
  • Any other duties as required by the business.

What you’ll need to do the role:

  • Excellent Customer Service skills.
  • ISPS Port Facility Security familiarisation.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
  • SIA Licence (Preferred).

Cleaning Supervisor, Lerwick

Contract Type: Full Time, 42 hours, Permanent

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team in based in Lerwick. You’ll be supervising our cleaning team within one of Transport’s flagship contracts NorthLink Ferries. In this role of Cleaning Supervisor you will ensure a high level of cleanliness of the vessels, terminal buildings and other port facilities at all times.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensuring the cleaning of Serco NorthLink Ferries is to agreed standards
  • Cleaning within the terminal buildings as required and any other port facilities
  • Arrange the roster on a weekly basis.
  • Liaise with the Onboard Manager daily.
  • Ensure that all staff are wearing the appropriate PPE provided on duty
  • Ensure that all healthy and safety measures are followed

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of up to 28 team members
  • Train new team members
  • Lead by example

What you’ll need to do the role:

  • Ability to self-motivate.
  • Ability to use own initiative and to work to tight timescales.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, working in a logical and methodical manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both in writing and orally (including good telephone manner).
  • Supervisory experience working in a cleaning / housekeeping environment.

Able Seafarer (Deck)

Description
Applications are invited for the position of Able Seafarer (Deck) within the Serco NorthLink Ferries fleet.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The candidate will work under the instruction of the Bosun, as directed by the Chief Officer (Head of the Deck Department).
  • Contributing to the maintenance and upkeep of the vessel to the highest possible standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent safety awareness and full understanding of vessel and company operating procedures and risk assessments.
  • Full familiarity with all safety equipment and procedures to be adopted in the event of an emergency.
  • To support and partake in safety drills and training in line with assigned muster duties.
  • Watchkeeping and lookout duties.
  • Contributing to safe and efficient mooring operations.
  • Any other duties as instructed by the Bosun or Chief Officer.

Place of Work
The successful candidate may be required to work on any vessel owned, managed, or chartered by the ship owner out of locations that the operator has vessels operating. The normal work pattern is two weeks on/off with annual leave.

Context/Job Purpose
The Third Officer is responsible to the Chief Officer and Master at all times. During Bridge Watchkeeping and Loading Officer duties the Third Officer has functional authority over the Deck crew assigned to the watch.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  1. In charge of a Navigational Watch.
  2. In charge of car deck operations during loading/discharging during designated periods.
  3. Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of charts, including electronic charts, and all nautical publications, including in electronic format, if required.

About the role
Opportunities to work in a dynamic, busy environment onboard our ferries. Onboard passenger services staff are responsible for providing the highest levels of customer services to our passengers – whether it be our retail, food or beverage outlets.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
In order to apply you must be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of a Seafarers ENG1 Medical
  • Be able to commit and successfully complete a two-week training programme.
  • Able to live onboard when rostered on duty.

With the benefit of a comprehensive two-week training programme including STCW training being provided to equip you with the full range of skills you’ll deliver the highest standards around. Our training is focused on providing a service which reflects safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Ad Hoc AB/EDH

Summary
Applications are invited for the position of ad hoc Able Seafarer (AB)/EDH within the Serco NorthLink Ferries fleet.

Context/Job Purpose
As an AB/EDH the candidate will work under the instruction of the BOSUN directed by the Chief Officer (Head of the Deck Department) in order to maintain the ship. There will also be duties assigned to the candidate relating to mooring and cargo operations as directed by the Master or Officer of the Watch.
