We are recruiting temporary crew for the 2017 season and are looking for Passenger Services Assistants and Chefs to join our team. Serco NorthLink Ferries is a dynamic organisation with a strong reputation in both passenger and freight transport operating between the Northern Isles and mainland Scotland.
About the role
An opportunity to work in a vibrant, busy environment on board our ferries operating between Stromness and Scrabster as well as Aberdeen, Kirkwall and Lerwick. Passenger Services staff and Chefs are responsible for providing the highest levels of customer services to our passengers – whether it be our retail, food or beverage outlets.
Living within the local catchment area of our operating ports, you will be friendly and enthusiastic. You’ll take great pride in what you do and be committed to delivering the very highest levels of customer service. Experience in retail, hospitality or other customer service environments would be advantageous, as would cash-handling skills and working to a roster system. Comprehensive on-board training will be provided to equip you with the full range of skills you’ll need for these exciting roles.
Ideally the successful candidates will hold STCW training, however, for the right candidates training will be provided. Training will begin immediately and successful candidates will need to be available from this time. Candidates must be available to work over the summer period. Opportunities include casual and part-time hourly contracts, in addition to seasonal contracts.
This may be an ideal opportunity for students looking to gain valuable experience in the maritime industry.
Passenger Services Assistant – £12.02 per hour
Chef – £13.16 per hour

Customer Service Assistant
Customer Contact Centre, Stromness
NorthLink Ferries are currently recruiting for a Customer Service Assistant working 35 hours per week based at our Customer Contact Centre, Stromness. The Customer Contact Centre is open from 08.00 to 20.00 Monday to Sunday, therefore there will be an element of shift work within the job role.
To provide an excellent first point of contact with customers face to face, on the phone and via email. The NorthLink experience should reflect the business` core values of quality, service and responsibility while at the same time, encouraging conversion of initial enquiries to bookings and repeat business to existing customers.

Deck Rating Apprentice
We are currently seeking candidates living within the catchment area of the NorthLink Ferries operating ports (Aberdeen, Scrabster, Shetland & Orkney) who are keen to begin a rewarding career at sea.
Through our Deck Rating Apprenticeship you will undertake a fully funded 2-year training programme where you will attend college at NAFC Marine Centre, Shetland and gain experience on board the NorthLink vessels. The course will begin in April 2017.
Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship, you will gain certification in:
- STCW Basic Training
- Level 2 Award in Maritime Studies (Watch Rating – deck)
- Watch Rating Certificate STCW Reg II/4
- Level 2 Certificate in Maritime Studies (Able Seafarer – deck)
- Efficient Deck Hand
- Able Seafarer STCW Reg II/5
In your role at sea you will carry out a variety of physical duties, within a supportive team and under the guidance of experienced Officers, to help ensure the smooth sailing of vessel operations.
We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable, determined and hardworking candidates. You will be a self-starter, team player, problem solver. The role will require you to work shift patterns and you must be able to pass a seafarers medical examination for working at sea. GCSE grades A to C or equivalent in Maths and English are essential.
