Lerwick is the northernmost town in the UK, some 100 miles from the Northern tip of the Scottish mainland. It is from this busy port that the MV Hrossey and MV Hjaltland sail to Kirkwall in Orkney and Aberdeen. Lerwick’s habour is both modern and historic, filled with pleasure boats, fishing vessels, oil industry ships and historic craft. Lerwick is the focus of much of Shetland's activities, including the famous fire festival, Up Helly Aa.
