Orkney Rugby Football Club
The Orkney Rugby Football Club travel to the mainland to compete in away games for the RBS Caledonia National League Division 1.
Orkney Athletics Club
The improvement in the club athlete standard can only be achieved by regular attendance of mainland competitions, this winter they are attending 2 competitions against athletics clubs from Aberdeen and Glasgow.
Orkney Pony Club
Members of the pony club travel south to events and competitions which sees a continued improvement in their skills and abilities. The Orkney Mounted Games Team successfully qualified for one of the 250 places at the Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham in October, where they qualified in fourth place.
Orkney Hockey
The Orkney team travel to the mainland to compete in the Scottish Hockey Union District Cup competition which gives them the opportunity to compete at a higher level than available on the island and to develop their skills.
Orkney Trout Fishing Association
This year will see Orkney Trout Fishing Association team members travel to the mainland to attend major national and international fly fishing competitions in Scotland and England. The OTFA is at the forefront of angling circles around the UK.
Orkney Folk Festival
The 30th annual Orkney Folk Festival is going to be held in June 2012. With plenty of music coming from both local and visiting acts. NorthLink supported the festival with discounted fares for visiting artists and patrons attending the festival.
St Magnus Festival
The St Magnus Festival was founded in 1977 by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, and is now one of Britain’s most highly regarded and adventurous arts events. NorthLink supported the festival for providing discounted travel to visiting artists.
Orkney Amateur Swimming Club
The club is made up of children and adults who travel to the mainland to compete in various competitions to give them further experience which is not available on the islands. Competitions include the Thurso Mini Meet, North District Open and the Pentland Trophy.
Orkney Amateur Football Association
There are over 25 teams in Orkney who currently play in 3 divisions locally, as well as the under 18s league. The county's adult and junior teams travel to compete against teams south in order to develop their skills and make the squad stronger.
