How much is the Family and Friends discount?

The Family and Friends discount is a 30% discount on NorthLink passenger and vehicle fares – cabins are not included. See Family and Friends prices.

On which sailings does the discount apply?

The Family and Friends discount is designed to encourage family and friends to travel at less busy times of the year. As a result, it is available on sailings between 7th January to 14th June 2025 and 1st September to 17th December 2025, excluding the Friday Lerwick- Kirkwall – Aberdeen sailing and the Sunday Aberdeen – Kirkwall – Lerwick sailing.

How do Islander nominate Family and Friends to take part?

To access the Family and Friends discount, you will need a Family and Friends discount ID. To receive this, an Islander must nominate those who live outwith Orkney and Shetland using the Family and Friends form. Up to 3 Family and Friends households can be nominated by an Islander at a time. If Islanders wish to nominate more households, please revisit the form – there is no limit to the number of Family and Friends you can nominate.

All nominees will receive an email on the next working day. The email will contain a link to an opt-in form on the NorthLink website. We encourage nominated households to check their Junk Mail folders just in case it arrives there.

Once the nominated household has filled in the opt-in form, they will automatically receive their Family and Friends discount ID and Password via email. This can then be used to make a booking.

I need a reminder of my Family and Friends ID or Password.

If you forget your NorthLink Family and Friends ID or Password, please visit the My Account page, and click on the Forgotten ID or Password link. Fill in the Forgotten ID form and an e-mail with your ID and a link to reset your password, will be sent to you. If you do not receive your ID, please check your Junk Mail first, and then contact NorthLink Ferries.

What should I do if I encounter any issues with the Family and Friends scheme?

If your nominated Family and Friends do not receive an email the next working day, please ask them to check their Junk Mail folders, as it may have arrived there. If the email has not arrived, or if you have any other Family and Friends ID problems, please contact NorthLink Ferries.
