Vessel Based Jobs

We are seeking an experienced and confident Motorman to join the Serco NorthLink Ferries fleet, operating lifeline passenger and freight services between Aberdeen, Orkney and Shetland.

Operating in some of the UK’s most demanding coastal waters, you will be trusted to exercise sound judgement, uphold the highest safety standards and contribute meaningfully to the vessel’s overall performance.

The Role
As the successful candidate, you will report to the Engineering Officer

You will:

• Keep the engine room spaces free of all dirt and debris.
• Note the amount of rubbish transferred to shoreside in the appropriate place.
• Maintenance and repair of all parts of the ship as required.
• Maintain the cosmetic appearance of all engine room spaces as directed by the second engineer.
• Assist the engineer officers with their maintenance tasks.
• Ensure correct stowage of tools and materials as appropriate.
• Any other duties as directed by the Chief Engineer or Second Engineer.

• Elementary First Aid
• Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
• Proficiency in Security Awareness
• Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats

Desirable

• Experience on Ro-Ro or passenger ferries
• Able Seafarer Engine Certificate
• Advanced Fire Fighting Certificate
• COSHH

Place of Work
You may be required to work on any vessel owned, managed or chartered within the Serco NorthLink Ferries fleet operating from Aberdeen, Orkney and Shetland.
While not essential, preference may be given to candidates living within the local catchment area our operating ports.
