Salary: £28,274.40 per annum plus benefits
Schedule: 35 hours per week, across Monday – Sunday between 6.45am – 7pm

As a Customer Service Assistant in our NorthLink Ferries team, you’ll help deliver a high‑quality passenger experience across one of Transport’s flagship contracts. Your work will make a real difference to customers travelling through our busy Aberdeen terminal and will support a service that has a positive impact on local communities.

You’ll play an important part in creating a smooth, friendly, and supportive journey for every passenger. From reservations to check‑in, you’ll help shape experiences that are grounded in our Serco values – trust, care, innovation, and pride.

What you’ll do as a Customer Service Assistant

You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Make customer reservations by telephone, email, and in person
  • Assist with check‑in and boarding processes
  • Provide clear, friendly, and proactive service to all passengers
  • Follow Health, Safety and Environment policies
  • Use phone and computer systems confidently
  • Support the effective day-to-day running of the terminal as part of a collaborative team

Freight Co-ordinator

Location: NorthLink Ferries, Stromness Ferry Terminal, Stromness, Orkney  KW16 3BH.
Salary: £32,755 plus excellent benefits.
Schedule: Full time, 35 hours per week– flexibility required to support a 24/7 operational service and work 1 in 3 weekends.

As a Freight Co-ordinator in our Transport team, you’ll play a key role in delivering a safe, efficient and high-quality freight service across the NorthLink Ferries contract. You’ll help ensure the smooth movement of goods between the Scottish mainland and the Northern Isles, supporting communities that rely on this essential lifeline service.

This is a dynamic, operational role where your coordination skills, leadership capability and ability to respond to changing demand will have a direct impact. You’ll work closely with colleagues, customers and partners to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

What you’ll do as a Freight Co-ordinator

You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of freight operations across multiple ports and locations.
  • Coordinate freight schedules, adapting plans to meet demand, operational needs and weather disruption.
  • Lead and support frontline teams and subcontractors to ensure high levels of performance and productivity.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, stakeholders and operational partners.
  • Monitor and prioritise freight bookings, ensuring timely and efficient allocation of resources.
  • Analyse operational performance and market trends to support planning and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality and contractual standards, including ISO-aligned processes.
  • Support business continuity, risk management and emergency response activities.
  • Oversee equipment, facilities and supplier performance across operational sites.

Does this sound like you?

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Experience in a transport, logistics or operational coordination environment highly desirable alternatively previous experience working within customer service background is essential.
  •  Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  •  Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel (Power BI desirable).
  • A flexible and resilient approach, suited to a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our fantastic team based in Stromness. Working in our busy  terminal, you’ll be part of our Customer Service team, who work hard to provide a high-quality service to customers within one of Transport’s flagship contracts NorthLink Ferries. In this role of Customer Service Assistant, you will be making reservations and assisting in the effective running of the department as part of a team that strive to deliver a great experience for each one of our passengers.

This position is well suited to individuals who enjoy working in a customer facing role and want to be part of a program that supports your development towards a long and successful career.

Within this role you will be making customer reservations by telephone, email and in person and assisting to check-in and board passengers, whilst embracing and adhering to the business’s Health, Safety and Environment Serco Policy.

The job requires a commitment to delivering excellent customer service whilst being able to follow standards and to have good organisational skills. We are looking for a good team player with a can-do attitude who takes initiative and ownership, particularly of personal development, and committed to Serco’s Values of Trust, Care, Innovation and Pride.
