Location: NorthLink Ferries, Jamiesons Quay, Aberdeen, AB11 5NP
Salary: £14.80 per hour plus benefits
Schedule: 20 hours per week, across Monday – Sunday between 6.45am – 7pm

As a Customer Service Assistant in our NorthLink Ferries team, you’ll help deliver a high‑quality passenger experience across one of Transport’s flagship contracts. Your work will make a real difference to customers travelling through our busy Aberdeen terminal and will support a service that has a positive impact on local communities.

You’ll play an important part in creating a smooth, friendly, and supportive journey for every passenger. From reservations to check‑in, you’ll help shape experiences that are grounded in our Serco values – trust, care, innovation, and pride.

What you’ll do as a Customer Service Assistant

You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Make customer reservations by telephone, email, and in person
  • Assist with check‑in and boarding processes
  • Provide clear, friendly, and proactive service to all passengers
  • Follow Health, Safety and Environment policies
  • Use phone and computer systems confidently
  • Support the effective day-to-day running of the terminal as part of a collaborative team

Cleaning Operative, Lerwick

Location: NorthLink Ferries, Lerwick ZE1 0PR 
Salary: £14.10 per hour plus excellent benefits 
Schedule: Fixed term contract until October, working 4 hours per day (flexible start time between 7.30am – 10am), variable shift patterns available offering flexible hours (includes weekends)

As a Cleaning Operative in our NorthLink Ferries team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining safe, clean, and welcoming environments across our vessels, terminal buildings, and port facilities. Your work helps create a positive experience for everyone who travels with us.

What you’ll do as a Cleaning Operative

You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Thoroughly clean and sanitise guest cabins, including making beds, changing linens, vacuuming, dusting, and replenishing amenities.
  • Clean and maintain public areas such as corridors, lounges, toilets, stairways, terminal buildings, and office areas.
  • Support laundry duties when required, including sorting bedding and towels.
  • Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and guest amenities, reporting low stock levels when needed.
  • Follow all company policies relating to cleanliness, hygiene, and safety, using cleaning chemicals responsibly.
  • Provide friendly and courteous service to passengers, maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Work effectively with colleagues to complete tasks efficiently and support wider team goals.

  • Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience, ideally in a hotel or similar environment.
  • The ability to work in a fast paced setting with strong attention to detail.

Contract Type: Full Time Seasonal role April – October
Schedule: 35 hours per week, across Monday – Sunday
Salary: £26,928 per annum plus benefits

We have an exciting opportunity to join our fantastic team based in Stromness. Working in our busy call centre , you’ll be part of our Customer Service team, who work hard to provide a high-quality service to customers within one of Transport’s flagship contracts NorthLink Ferries. In this role of Customer Service Assistant, you will be dealing with all aspects telephone enquiries and bookings, responding to emails and web based enquiries, handling payments and assisting in the effective running of the department as part of a team.

This position is well suited to individuals who enjoy working in a customer facing role and want to be part of a program that supports your development towards a long and successful career.

Within this role you will be making customer reservations by telephone, email and in person and assisting to check-in and board passengers, whilst embracing and adhering to the business’s Health, Safety and Environment Serco Policy.

The job requires a commitment to delivering excellent customer service whilst being able to follow standards and to have good organisational skills. We are looking for a good team player with a can-do attitude who takes initiative and ownership, particularly of personal development, and committed to Serco’s Values of Trust, Care, Innovation and Pride. You must be able to communicate well with the public and team members and be confident to use a phone and computer system.
