Cabin Accommodation

Whether you are travelling as a group, or on your own, booking a private cabin is a great idea for your journey.  MV Hrossey has 2, 3 and 4-bed cabins, Premium and Executive cabins, accessible cabins, and pet-friendly cabins available. All cabins are en-suite and have a TV with live channels, on demand movies and box sets. Alternatively, book a sleeping pod or reclining seat for your journey.

The Magnus Lounge

Purchase entry to this premium lounge; a quiet place to work or unwind. Alternatively, buy an Executive or Premium cabin to receive complimentary access to the Magnus Lounge. Inside the lounge you’ll find comfortable seats, an area to eat dinner, drinks and nibbles and in the morning, a complimentary continental breakfast.

Travelling with pets

Pet owners travelling on MV Hrossey have a range of options. Animals can either remain in owners’ vehicles, travel in kennel facilities, or can join you in a comfortable pet-friendly cabin for the journey to the Orkney and Shetland Islands.

There’s plenty do for children on board MV Hrossey, including a cinema showing child-friendly films, children’s meals, and the Vikling’s Den play area.

Baggage

Looking for a place to store your baggage? Small items go in the baggage room and larger items can be placed on a luggage trolley in port. The trolley is then driven onto the vehicle deck.

Aberdeen to Kirkwall to Lerwick

    Along with MV Hjaltland, MV Hrossey, sails from Aberdeen to Lerwick in Shetland and back, departing in the early evening and arriving the following morning. MV Hrossey also makes regular calls into Kirkwall in Orkney, arriving in the late evening before sailing on to Lerwick (or Aberdeen). The journey lasts approx. 14 hours (Aberdeen to Lerwick) or 6 hours (Aberdeen to Kirkwall). View route information.

Other information

    Booking a cabin, sleeping pod, or reclining seat is recommended for the overnight journeys from Aberdeen to Lerwick, Lerwick to Aberdeen, Kirkwall to Aberdeen and Kirkwall to Lerwick. However, journeys from Aberdeen to Kirkwall and Lerwick to Kirkwall depart and arrive on the same evening, so booking on board accommodation is not essential.

M.V Hrossey - History and Overview

NorthLink Ferries’ ferry M.V. Hrossey entered service on 1st October 2002 on the Aberdeen – Kirkwall – Lerwick route. The ship was built at Aker Finyards OY, Rauma, Finland and measures 125m in length and 20m in beam with a tonnage of 11,720 GRT. She has a capacity for 600 passengers and has 650 lane metres (140 cars) for vehicles. With a top speed of 24 knots, the distances M.V. Hrossey covers are as follows – Aberdeen to Kirkwall – 154 miles, Kirkwall to Lerwick – 115 miles, Aberdeen to Lerwick – 216 miles. M.V. Hrossey travels the equivalent of almost three-and-a-half trips round the world each year. ‘Hrossey’ is the old Norse name for Orkney.
