Customer Service Assistant (7 month fixed term contract), Kiln Corner
Location: Kiln Corner, Ayre Road, Kirkwall, Orkney, KW15 1QX
Customer Service role, 7 Month Fixed Term Contract
21 hours per week (worked between Mon-Fri between 9am and 5pm)
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team in based in Kirkwall. You’ll be part of our Customer Service team who work hard to provide a high-quality service to customers within one of Transport’s flagship contracts NorthLink Ferries. In this role of Customer Service Assistant you will be making reservations and assisting in the effective running of the department as part of a team that strive to deliver a great experience for each one of our passengers.
This position is well suited to individuals who enjoy working in a customer facing role and want to be part of a program that supports your development towards a long and successful career.
Within this role you will be making customer reservations by telephone, email and in person, whilst embracing and adhering to the business’s Health, Safety and Environment Serco Policy.
The job requires a commitment to delivering excellent customer service whilst being able to follow standards and to have good organisational skills. We are looking for a good team player with a can-do attitude who takes initiative and ownership, particularly of personal development, and committed to Serco’s Values of Trust, Care, Innovation and Pride. You must be able to communicate well with the public and team members and be confident to use a phone and computer system.

Customer Service Apprentice, Stromness and Kirkwall
Location: NorthLink Ferries offices in Stromness and Kirkwall
Working Hours: Full Time, 35 hours per week, working shift pattern

Apprenticeship Qualification: SCQF Level 5-6
Expected Duration: 24 month FTC with 3 months probationary period
We have a great opportunity for a Customer Service Apprentice to join our team at NorthLink Ferries. Working in our busy Contact Centre, Stromness and Hatston ports and the Kirkwall office where you’ll be part of our Customer Service team who work hard to provide an excellent first point of contact and a high-quality service to customers via telephone, face to face, email and LiveChat. There will be administration duties within one of Transport’s flagship contracts. You will make reservations and understand what passengers want from their NorthLink Ferries experience, assist in the effective running of the department and work as part of the team.

What you’ll be doing:
- Making customer reservations by telephone or face to face
- Answering inbound calls and deal with all aspects of customer enquiries and bookings

- Collating, entering and maintaining customer and supplier data
- Handling payments
- Assisting to check in and board passengers

Ship’s Electrician Vacancy
Description
A challenging and rewarding opportunity exists for a highly motivated Ships Electrician within the NorthLink Ferries fleet.
Context/Job Purpose
The Ships Electrician is responsible for working under the direction of the Chief Engineer to ensure all electrical and technical areas of the vessel are kept clean and in good operating condition at all times. The Ships Electrician also ensures that preventative maintenance is carried out in a timely manner to reduce repair and maintenance costs.
Essential
- Marine electrical background
- Valid ENG1 medical
- 4 STCW Basic Safety Training Courses / Manila Amendments
- STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat
- Security Awareness or Designated Security Duties
Desirable
- STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
- ETO CoC highly desirable
- MarinArk Basic Descent/Operator
- Crowd Management
Knowledge and Duties
- Maintain an adequate stock of spare parts on board the ship and communicate to the Chief Engineer when stock items are depleted or other items are required.
- Attend the machinery control room during all standby situations, unless instructed otherwise by the Chief Engineer.
- Running and recording schedule planned maintenance checks through AMOS on the Vessels electrical plant.
- Any other duties as required by the Chief Engineer
Place of Work
The Ships Electrician may be required to work on any vessel owned, managed or chartered by the ship owner out of the Northern Isles locations that the operator has vessels operating. The normal work pattern is two weeks on/off with annual leave.
It is preferred that the successful candidate will live within the local vicinity of our operating Ports (Aberdeen, Orkney & Shetland).
