Description

A challenging and rewarding opportunity exists for a highly motivated 2nd Engineer within the NorthLink Ferries fleet.

Context/Job Purpose

The jobholder is responsible to the Chief Engineer for the day-today running of the Engine Room Department and in maintaining an environment which is without risk to the health and safety of engine room staff.

Minimum Certification

Essential

  • Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency III/2
  • Valid ENG1 medical
  • 4 STCW Basic Safety Training Courses / Manila Amendments
  • STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
  • STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat
  • STCW Proficient in Fast Rescue Boats
  • Human Element, Leadership and Management (O)
  • Security Awareness or Designated Security Duties
  • Previous sailing experience in Chief Engineer / 2nd Engineer capacity is essential

Desirable

  • MarinArk Basic Descent
  • Crowd Management
  • Crisis Management and Human Behaviour
  • Industry Operational Excellence Certification

Place of Work

The 2nd Engineer may be required to work on any vessel owned, managed or chartered by the ship owner out of the Northern Isles locations that the operator has vessels operating.  The normal work pattern is two weeks on/off with annual leave.  There may be a requirement to fulfil higher rank duties as required.

It is preferred that Candidates live within the local vicinity of our Ports (Aberdeen, Orkney & Shetland).

We have a great opportunity to join the team at NorthLink Ferries. We are recruiting for a Customer Service Assistant to join our great team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, genuine and friendly person who really enjoys working with the public and wants to provide exceptional customer service.

Experience we are looking for:

  • Be confident to use a phone and computer system
  • To have worked with people in a customer related role

Purpose of the role:

The Customer Service Assistant will provide an excellent first point of contact with customers either via telephone, face to face or electronic methods, within one of Transport’s flagship contracts. They will assist the public with travel booking and advice, delivering an exceptional customer service experience, while at the same time encouraging conversion of enquiries to bookings.

Requirement of the role

  • Deal with all aspects of customer enquiries and bookings with regard to our passenger, freight and livestock services and sponsorship programme
  • Maximise the conversion of enquiries to reservations
  • Accurate data inputting via the NorthLink booking system
  • Provide information on NorthLink and associated services and background information on the Northern Isles
  • Collating, entering and maintaining customer and supplier data, whilst complying with GDPR and Data Protection Act
  • Handling payments particularly by way of Credit/Debit Card
  • Administrative duties in support of the reservations functions e.g. preparation, communication and storage of correspondence with customers
  • Embrace and adhere to the business’s Health, Safety and Environment Serco Policy
  • Any other duties required by the Manager or Company

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Well-developed communication skills and ability to deliver first class Customer Service
  • Good IT and Administration skills
  • Previous experience working in a customer services role
  • Educated to Scottish Higher Grade Standard or Equivalent

Ships Electrician Vacancy

A challenging and rewarding opportunity exists for a highly motivated Ships Electrician within the NorthLink Ferries fleet.

Context/Job Purpose

The Ships Electrician is responsible for working under the direction of the Chief Engineer to ensure all electrical and technical areas of the vessel are kept clean and in good operating condition at all times. The Ships Electrician also ensures that preventative maintenance is carried out in a timely manner to reduce repair and maintenance costs.

Minimum Certification

Essential

  • Marine electrical background
  • Valid ENG1 medical
  • 4 STCW Basic Safety Training Courses / Manila Amendments
  • STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat
  • Security Awareness or Designated Security Duties

Desirable

  • STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
  • ETO CoC highly desirable
  • MarinArk Basic Descent/Operator
  • Crowd Management

Knowledge and Duties

  • Maintain an adequate stock of spare parts on board the ship and communicate to the Chief Engineer when stock items are depleted or other items are required.
  • Attend the machinery control room during all standby situations, unless instructed otherwise by the Chief Engineer.
  • Running and recording schedule planned maintenance checks through AMOS on the Vessels electrical plant.
  • Any other duties as required by the Chief Engineer
