In a celebration of the unique heritage of the Shetland Islands, Serco NorthLink Ferries is collaborating with Shetland Folk Festival to shine a light on the most rural gigs on this year’s lineup.
In April 2024, we were proud to announce that NorthLink Ferries has achieved the Green Tourism award. Additionally, we updated our artwork in our onboard children’s play areas, and we were thrilled to announce our much-anticipated Hamnavoe Nature Cruise.
NorthLink Ferries has been recognised for its sustainability standards by independent body, Green Tourism, and is the only ferry operator to currently have its Gold rating.
In March 2024, we celebrated our female workforce for International Women’s Day and our apprentices for Scottish Apprenticeship Week. We also enjoyed a visit from the Kinneff, Durris and Mearns Young Farmers to show them around the Aberdeen Ferry Terminal.

For the first time in the history of the service, Serco NorthLink Ferries welcomed a record 400,000 passengers across all routes during 2023.
Serco NorthLink Ferries welcomed its 200,000th passenger of the year onboard the MV Hamnavoe, the first time that number has been reached on the route in one year.

In October 2023, we attended the Shetland Careers Fair, launched a re-brand of our shortbread packaging in collaboration with Reids Bakery and welcomed some special guests onboard the MV Hrossey for a tour.
In September 2023, we celebrated Merchant Navy Day, opened our bookings for the first 3 months of 2024, revealed our competition winner and welcomed some special visitors onboard the MV Hjaltland.
This month, we supported the #NoWrongPath campaign, started accepting applications for our new sponsorship tranche from October 1 – March 31, celebrated the amazing fundraising efforts of our incredible crew, and much more!
Serco NorthLink Ferries’ crew members have raised over £5,000 for their charity of the year, MND (Motor Neuron Disease) Scotland, following a sponsored walk across Shetland.
