Cleaning Operative, Lerwick

Location: NorthLink Ferries, Lerwick, Shetland, ZE1 0PR
Full and Part Time Opportunities Available

NorthLink Ferries sail daily from Aberdeen to Lerwick with frequent calls at Kirkwall, and from Scrabster on the north coast of Scotland to Stromness in Orkney. Our ferries operate 363 days per year providing the lifeline service to the Northern Isles, with islanders, visitors, goods and supplies all travelling by NorthLink Ferries.

The Cleaning Operative will provide a high standard of service to the customer, specifically to ensure a high level of cleanliness of the vessels, terminal buildings and other port facilities at all times. Principal duties will include cleaning the vessel, dealing with lost property, making up cabins and beds, and ensuring defects found within the vessel are reported.

What you’ll need

You will need to live within the local catchment area and be committed to working flexible variable hours. You will need strong customer service and communication skills, and be able to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.

Customer Services Assistant, Contact Centre, Caithness

Working Hours: Full Time, 35 hours per week
Salary: £18,245 per annum

We have a great opportunity for a customer service assistant to join our team in Caithness. We are looking for an enthusiastic and friendly person who really enjoys working with the public and wants to provide exceptional customer service.

This position is well suited to individuals looking to gain hands-on experience and receive practical training within a customer focused environment.

Based in the Customer Contact Centre, you will provide a high-quality service to customers within one of Transport’s flagship contracts.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Answering in bound calls 
  • Providing exceptional customer service via telephone, email and Live Chat 
  • Deal with all aspects of customer enquiries and make bookings
  • Handling payments
  • Administrative duties in support of the reservations functions 

What you need to do the role:

Working Week: Full Time, 35 hours per week, rostered over a 7-day pattern
Salary: £18,245 per annum pro rata (based on a 35 hour working week).
Duration: 6 month minimum contract

We have a great opportunity for a customer service assistant to join our team in Stromness. Based in the Contact Centre in Stromness, you will provide an excellent first point of contact and a high-quality service to customers via telephone, email and LiveChat, within one of Transport’s flagship contracts. You will make reservations and understand what passengers want from their NorthLink Ferries experience, assist in the effective running of the department and work as part of the team.

Location: NorthLink Ferries Contact Centre, Stromness Ferry Terminal, Ferry Road, Stromness, Orkney, GB, KW16 3BH
Working Week: Full Time, 37 hours per week, rostered over a 7-day pattern
Salary: £19,100 per annum pro rata (based on a 37 hour working week).
Duration: Fixed term contract, 24 months minimum

You must be able to organise and prioritise tasks, as well as being able to find the information needed to complete them – an apprentice will require to demonstrate this aspect by collecting evidence in the workplace.

  • There are no formal entry requirements for studying a Foundation Apprenticeship however as this is a level 6 SCQF award, you should be working towards achieving at this level.
  • During the apprenticeship programme you will require to spend minimum 35 hours of on-the-job training and 2 hours at Orkney College, as well as creating a work-based portfolio to demonstrate the skills you’ve learnt at work.

Customer Service Assistant, Aberdeen

Working Week: Average 35 hours a week, working shift patterns
Salary: £18,245 per annum pro rata (based on a 35 hour working week).
Duration: Permanent position.

We have an opportunity for a Customer Service Assistant, who will provide an excellent first point of contact with customers either via telephone, face to face or electronic methods, within one of Transport’s flagship contracts.

As a Customer Service Assistant, you will look to support all customers at the terminal, including with the taking and handling of payments, manage customer enquiries and bookings and also look to use the NorthLink Ferries booking system.

What you’ll need to do the job
This is an opportunity for an individual who has excellent customer services experience and a natural communicator. The successful candidate must show a natural drive to deliver a good customer experience as well as having a good knowledge of IT.

As a key part of the customer facing Serco and NorthLink Ferries team, you will also be provided to promote our values and vision at all time. The postholder will also ideally have previous experience within a customer services environment, with a good level of education (especially Maths and English).

Experience within a customer facing role is not essential, but highly desirable with this opportunity.

Passenger Service Assistants & Chefs

Summary

All posts are late May to October 2022

Passenger Service Assistants – £27,630 pro rata
Chefs – £30,237 pro rata

We are recruiting for the 2022 season and are looking for people to join our onboard service team who will go the extra mile for our passengers to ensure that their journey is comfortable and enjoyable.

About the role
Opportunities to work in a vibrant, busy environment onboard our ferries. Onboard passenger services staff are responsible for providing the highest levels of customer services to our passengers – whether it be our retail, food or beverage outlets.

About you
Living within the local catchment area of our operating ports operating between Stromness and Scrabster as well as Aberdeen, Kirkwall and Lerwick, you will be friendly, enthusiastic, flexible and a quick learner. You’ll take great pride in what you do and be committed to delivering the very highest level of customer service. Experience in retail, hospitality or other customer services environments would be advantageous, as would cash-handling skills and working to a roster system.

Training
With the benefit of a comprehensive two-week training programme including STCW seafarer training being provided to equip you with the full range of skills you’ll deliver the highest standards around. Our training is focused on providing a service which reflects safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Requirements
In order to apply you must be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of a Seafarers ENG1 Medical
  • Be able to commit and successfully complete a two-week training programme with the first intake commencing early to mid-April.
  • Able to live onboard when rostered on duty
