The Security Officer is responsible for being an excellent first point of contact with customers at the port. The NorthLink Ferries experience should reflect the business’ core values of quality, service, and responsibility while at the same time, maintaining a professional, observant, and responsive security presence at all times.

This is a role that comes with its challenges however, you will be part of a friendly team who love what they do.

Our ferries operate 363 days per year providing the lifeline service to the Northern Isles, with islanders, visitors, goods and supplies all travelling by NorthLink Ferries.

The Graduate Freight Co-ordinator is expected to lead and support freight and operational teams across one of Transport’s flagship contracts such that operational contract, service, quality, and H&S targets are met, thus delivering a safe and exceptional lifeline ferry service from the Scottish mainland to the Northern Isles. The focus of the role is on the deployment, utilisation and motivation of staff and resources in support of the NorthLink Ferries Freight and Livestock Operation. Monitoring and reporting on their effectiveness and observing key industry trends and forecasts. They provide management and co-ordination to ensure service delivery between vessels, stevedores and shore side staff, ensuring that service standards, productivity and KPIs are met.

What you need to do the job
This is an opportunity for someone who is educated to degree level. You must have Flexible approach to working in line with the needs of a 24/7 business. There is also a requirement to share an out of duty mobile.

The successful candidate must have demonstratable experience in data analysis as this role involves regular analysis and reporting of industry trends to inform budget and forecasting setting process. IT involves in depth analysis of the freight market in Orkney and Shetland, including business challenges on a weekly basis. You must be able to oversee the maintenance of relevant equipment, facilities and systems at each of the ports, liaising with key suppliers and monitoring performance. Other aspects of the role involves; Coaching and developing others within the business in support of the Freight and Livestock operations and where suitable delegating responsibility. The successful post holder must contribute to business continuity planning, risk review and resilience, member of the NorthLink emergency response team.

Apprentice Customer Service Assistant

Salary: Up to £18,328 per annum plus benefits & 25 days annual leave
Apprenticeship Qualification: SCQF Level 5 & 6 in Customer Service
Expected Apprenticeship Duration: 24 months minimum

NorthLink Ferries provide daily lifeline ferry connections between the North and North East of Scotland and the Northern Isles. Our ferries operate all year-round providing a welcome and reliable service, catering for everyone and travellers can expect a service that is a testament to the islands’ warmth and friendliness. About the role
You’ll be providing an excellent first point of contact experience for customers either via telephone, face to face or electronic methods within our NorthLink Ferries Transport contract. You’ll assistant the public with travel booking and advice, delivering an exceptional customer service experience, while encouraging conversion of travel enquiries to bookings.

You’ll deal with all aspects of enquires and bookings including passenger, freight and livestock services, with a customer first mindset. You will also be required to collate, enter and maintain accurate customer and supplier data via the NorthLink booking system whilst complying with GDPR and Data Protection policies.

As part of our apprenticeship scheme you’ll be enrolled on a SCQF Level 5 & 6 in Customer Service qualification (delivered by our Scottish Apprenticeship Training provider). You’ll also have access to a treasure trove of development opportunities and enjoy the full training, support and encouragement of our super-friendly team.

About you
To be successful in this role you will need to be organised, able to deliver first class customer service with strong communication skills. The job requires an understanding of systems and procedures within customer service, so you’ll need to demonstrate strong IT skills and be comfortable in dealing with multiple tasks at once.

You’ll be able to demonstrate strong administrative experience and be organised in your working approach. This is a customer facing role so being able to converse professionally with colleagues and customers is paramount! Lastly, you’ll need to be educated to Scottish Higher-grade standard or equivalent and have a strong interest in Customer Services.
