Security Officer, Aberdeen

Location: NorthLink Ferries, Aberdeen Ferry Terminal, Jamieson’s Quay, Aberdeen, AB11 5NP
Contract Type: Permanent, Full time (42 hours per week – This role has a shift pattern of 7 days on 7 days off once training is completed)
Pay Rate: £24,700 PA plus benefits

Serco are recruiting for a Security Officer to join the North Link Ferries team based in Aberdeen.  

The key purpose of the role is to provide access control to the Port Facility and any vessel berthed within the port facility in accordance with the UK Department for Transport, Maritime Security Resilience Division (MSRD) Security Instructions and Operations Manual. This role will also include maintaining records of security incidents and search records and to ensure paperwork and other information is maintained for inspection. The role promotes the highest standard of customer service consistently and accurately.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Monitor and maintain access control to the Serco NorthLink Ferries Port Facility.
  • Record and uphold detailed records of activities and incidents.
  • Review and consider development opportunities in Security provision at Aberdeen.
  • Report and observe any developing security incidents within the Port Facilities.
  • Baggage handling and supporting customers. 
  • Any other duties as required by the business.

What you’ll need to do the role:

  • Excellent Customer Service skills.
  • ISPS Port Facility Security familiarisation.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
  • SIA Licence (Preferred).
  • STCW training (Preferred).

Able Seafarer Engine

Salary: £41,000

Description
Applications are invited for the position of Able Seafarer Engine within the Serco NorthLink Ferries fleet. Applicants are reminded that you may be appointed to any vessel within the fleet.

Context/Job Purpose
The Able Seafarer Engine is responsible to the engineer officer of the watch to assist with the safe and efficient running of the ships machinery. While on board the vessel this person will ensure that all work and emergency duties are carried out in accordance with the guidelines contained in: Company Management Manual, Code of Safe Working Practice, SOLAS and MARPOL Regulations and Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keep the engine room spaces free of all dirt and debris
  • Note the amount of rubbish transferred to shoreside in the appropriate place
  • Maintenance and repair of all parts of the ship as required.
  • Maintain the cosmetic appearance of all engine room spaces as directed by the second engineer
  • Assist the engineer officers with their maintenance tasks
  • Ensure correct stowage of tools and materials as appropriate
  • Any other duties as directed by the Chief Engineer or Second Engineer

Ship Security Operative

Description
Applications are invited for the position of Ship Security Operative within the Serco NorthLink Ferries fleet. 

Context/Job Purpose
As a Security Operative, the candidate will work under the instruction of the Chief Officer.

Minimum Certification

  • Valid ENG1 Medical
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques
  • STCW Proficiency in Designated Security Duties.

Desired but not essential Certification

  • STCW Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention
  • STCW Elementary First Aid
  • STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibility

Duties and Responsibilities

As directed by the Chief Officer.

At Sea

  • Conduct hourly security rounds.
  • Monitor passenger behaviour.
  • Assist passengers as required.
  • When not completing other duties at the discretion of the Chief Officer, maintain a visible presence in passenger areas.
  • Maintain relevant security records.

In Port

  • The tending of the gangway and access as necessary.
  • Assisting with passenger operations as directed by the Officer on Watch or the Chief Officer.
  • Any other duties assigned to them by the Chief Officer, OOW or the Master and legitimate requests by other Officers.
  • Assist with the loading of passenger vehicles and the collection of boarding cards

Ad Hoc AB/EDH

Summary
Applications are invited for the position of ad hoc Able Seafarer (AB)/EDH within the Serco NorthLink Ferries fleet.

Context/Job Purpose
As an AB/EDH the candidate will work under the instruction of the BOSUN directed by the Chief Officer (Head of the Deck Department) in order to maintain the ship. There will also be duties assigned to the candidate relating to mooring and cargo operations as directed by the Master or Officer of the Watch.

Place of Work
The AB/EDH may be required to work on any vessel owned, managed or chartered by the ship owner out of the Northern Isles locations that the operator has vessels operating. Please note that this position is a temporary as and when required position.

It is preferred that Candidates live within the local vicinity of our Ports (Aberdeen, Orkney & Shetland).
