Customer Service Assistant, Kiln Corner

Contract Type: Permanent / Part Time (14 hours p/w: Mon & Tue)

NorthLink Ferries has been run by Serco since July 2012 and is an operator of passenger and vehicle ferries, as well as ferry services, between mainland Scotland and the Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland.

Here at Serco, we have an opportunity for a Customer Service Assistant to join our fantastic team at Kiln Corner, where you will provide an excellent first point of contact with our customers either via telephone, face to face or electronic methods, within one of Transport’s flagship contracts. You will support all customers at the terminal – taking and handling of payments, managing customer enquiries and bookings and using the NorthLink Ferries booking system.

You will also be involved in general administrative tasks.

What you’ll need to do the role

This is an opportunity for an individual who must show a drive to deliver good customer experience, a natural communicator as well as having a good knowledge of IT

Experience within a customer facing role is not essential, as training will be given but highly desirable with this opportunity.

What you will need to do the job
This is an opportunity for an individual who has excellent customer services experience and a natural communicator.

The successful candidate must show a natural drive to deliver a good customer experience as well as having a good knowledge of IT.

As a key part of the customer facing Serco and Northlink Ferries team, you will also be provided to promote our values and vision at all time. The postholder will also ideally have previous experience within a customer services environment, with a good level of education (especially Maths and English).

Experience within a customer facing role is not essential, but highly desirable with this opportunity.

Able Seafarer Engine

Description
Applications are invited for the position of Able Seafarer Engine within the Serco NorthLink Ferries fleet. Applicants are reminded that you may be appointed to any vessel within the fleet.

Context/Job Purpose
The Able Seafarer Engine is responsible to the engineer officer of the watch to assist with the safe and efficient running of the ships machinery. While on board the vessel this person will ensure that all work and emergency duties are carried out in accordance with the guidelines contained in: Company Management Manual, Code of Safe Working Practice, SOLAS and MARPOL Regulations and Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan.

Full time, 35 hours, 12 Months FTC

The job opportunity:
We have a great opportunity to join the team at NorthLink Ferries. We are recruiting for a Customer Service Assistant to join our great team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, genuine and friendly person who really enjoys working with the public and wants to provide exceptional customer service.

Main duties:

  • The Customer Service Assistant will provide an excellent first point of contact with customers either via telephone, face to face or electronic methods, within one of Transport’s flagship contracts.
  • They will assist the public with travel booking and advice, delivering an exceptional customer service experience, while at the same time encouraging conversion of enquiries to bookings.
  • Deal with all aspects of customer enquiries and bookings with regard to our passenger, freight and livestock services and sponsorship programme.
  • Maximise the conversion of enquiries to reservations.
  • Accurate data inputting via the NorthLink booking system.
  • Provide information on NorthLink and associated services and background information on the Northern Isles.
  • Collating, entering and maintaining customer and supplier data, whilst complying with GDPR and Data Protection Act.
  • Handling payments particularly by way of Credit/Debit Card.
  • Administrative duties in support of the reservations functions e.g. preparation, communication and storage of correspondence with customers.
  • Embrace and adhere to the business’s Health, Safety and Environment Serco Policy.
  • Any other duties required by the Manager or Company.

What we are looking for in our candidates:

  • Well-developed communication skills and ability to deliver first class Customer Service.
  • Good IT and Administration skills.
  • Previous experience working in a customer services role.
  • Educated to Scottish Higher Grade Standard or Equivalent.

Onboard passenger services staff are responsible for providing the highest levels of customer services to our passengers – whether it be our retail, food or beverage outlets.

About you
Living within the local catchment area of our operating ports, you will be friendly, enthusiastic, flexible and a quick learner. You’ll take great pride in what you do and be committed to delivering the very highest level of customer service. Experience in retail, hospitality or other customer services environments would be advantageous, as would cash-handling skills and working to a roster system.
