NorthLink partners with Fishermen’s Mission for new on board announcements

Tuesday 3rd March 2020

Serco NorthLink Ferries has partnered with UK charity Fishermen’s Mission to create a new series of on board safety announcements in celebration of Year of Coasts and Waters 2020.

Northern Isles members of the charity, which provides emergency support alongside practical, financial and emotional care for all fishermen including those who are retired, are the narrators of the refreshed announcements which call for passengers’ attention to aid a safe and pleasant journey.

John Johnston from BBC Radio Shetland, Jane Leask from NorthLink and Aubrey Jamieson from the Shetland Fishermen’s Mission record the Hjaltland and Hrossey safety announcement

On MV Hjaltland and MV Hrossey, the announcement was recorded by Aubrey Jamieson from the Shetland Fishermen’s Mission. He was joined by NorthLink Ferries Service Manager Jane Leask and John Johnston from BBC Radio Shetland. On MV Hamnavoe, the safety announcement was recorded by Frank Sinclair, a retired fisherman, and David Sinclair, Mission Area Officer for The Fishermen’s Mission in Orkney, Cheryl Kelday, NorthLink Ferries Marketing Officer and Magnus Dixon, NorthLink Ferries E-Marketing Manager.

Speaking of the new on board announcements, Magnus Dixon commented: “On board safety announcements are an important part of our passengers’ journey and we couldn’t think of anyone better to partner with than Fishermen’s Mission to deliver them this year given we’re celebrating Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters.

“The charity does a fantastic job in supporting fishermen and their families in times of need and we’re very pleased to work with the organisation whilst also giving our passengers a glimpse into the work that it does.

“As the Year of Coasts and Waters, led by VisitScotland, progresses throughout 2020 we’ll continue to celebrate this special year with additional partnerships with the local community and our passengers.”

NorthLink Ferries is a long-standing supporter of Fishermen’s Mission. Charity donation tins can be found on board and, on MV Hamnavoe, there is an annual meal hosted on board for members. To find out more about the charity or to make a donation, visit www.fishermensmission.org.uk
