NorthLink Ferries present the Swan Trust in Shetland with a cheque

NorthLink Ferries set to make reappearance in popular Shetland series

NorthLink Ferries is once again set to appear in the BBC’s successful Shetland TV series later this year.

Passenger ferry MV Hrossey will appear in the fourth series of the award-winning crime television programme, which stars Douglas Henshall as Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez.

Speaking of the appearance, Stuart Garrett, Serco’s Managing Director for NorthLink Ferries, said: “We will be very proud to see NorthLink Ferries once again play its part in the Shetland series.

“The passenger and freight vessels are a lifeline service for those living on Shetland and Orkney, so it will be great to see our vessels feature within the programme, which has become a global success.”

As part of its ongoing commitment to local community groups and charities, NorthLink Ferries has donated its location fee for the programme to support Shetland charity The Swan Trust.

Formed in 1990, the Trust is responsible for the operation and upkeep of the SWAN, a herring driftnet sailing boat launched in 1900 which has been restored following its survival of two world wars.

Stuart continued: “The Swan Trust does a great job in maintaining one of Scotland’s finest boats. As the largest ever Scottish fishing fleet vessel built in Lerwick, the boat is an important part of the island’s maritime culture and we hope that the donation of the location fee will help the charity continue their great work.”

David Goodlad, chairman of the SWAN Trust added: “The Swan Trust very much appreciates the donation of £2500 which it has received from NorthLink. At a time when grant support to the trust is reducing, such a generous donation is most welcome and recognition of the work which the trust does to promote sail training and an interest in Shetland’s maritime history.”
