Serco NorthLink Ferries accredited as Investors in Diversity

Tuesday 15th June 2021

Serco NorthLink Ferries has achieved Investors in Diversity status – becoming the first ferry operator in the UK to receive the accreditation.

The award, granted by the National Centre for Diversity (NCD), reflects the dedication and effort NorthLink has made to create an inclusive workplace. It also shows their commitment to FREDIE – Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, Engagement – which are the central principles outlined by the NCD.

In addition to the award, NorthLink was also recently named in the NCD’s Top 100 Most Inclusive Workplaces for 2021, one of only four Scottish representatives along with Port of Leith Housing Association, South Lanarkshire College and The Law Society of Scotland.

Stuart Garrett, Serco’s Managing Director for NorthLink Ferries, said: “On the back of successfully being named by the National Centre for Diversity as one of their Top 100 Most Inclusive Workplaces 2021, we are proud to be the first ferry operator in the UK to become an Investors in Diversity Accredited employer.

“This underlines the progress we continue to make as an organisation, with a real focus on our core values of Trust, Care, Innovation and Pride. While this represents a major achievement, we know we must strive to deliver continuous improvement and exemplify best practice in everything we do.”

Minister for Transport Graeme Dey said:

“This is excellent news for NorthLink and I’d like to congratulate them on becoming the first ferry operator in the UK to be recognised in this way. The importance of having a diverse and inclusive workplace cannot be understated and it is very pleasing to see NorthLink leading the way in this regard.

“As always, I’d like to thank the staff at NorthLink for their continued hard work in delivering lifeline ferry services on the Northern Isles network.”
