Read All About It! Download Complimentary Newspapers and Magazines

Sunday 14th October 2018

Passengers travelling to and from the Northern Isles can now download a range of newspapers and magazines on their mobile devices, courtesy of NorthLink Ferries.

From this week, NorthLink Ferries will become a HotSpot partner to the popular PressReader App. Passengers who download the App before boarding, then sign in using the NorthLink server once on board, will be able to download the latest editions of magazines and newspapers free of charge via their phones or tablets.

Seumas Campbell, Serco’s customer service director at NorthLink Ferries, said: “We’re hugely excited to be able to offer the complimentary copies of newspapers and magazines to our customers via the PressReader App.

“Newshounds will find all the top titles offering news and current affairs, whilst followers of fashion, food, films, music, travel and photography will find a wide range of magazines to download. Whatever your interests, you will find plenty on the PressReader App to occupy you during your journey. Titles are yours to keep forever, so please enjoy some holiday reading courtesy of NorthLink Ferries!”

“To take advantage of the offer, please make sure you download the PressReader app onto your mobile device before travelling – it’s free to download from the Google Play, Apple Store or Kindle App Store. We hope that, by making newspapers and magazines available via PressReader, our passengers will have an even more enjoyable and entertaining crossing.”

The fact that all the titles are available digitally also avoids the potentially damaging environmental effects of producing, transporting and disposing of paper copies of the magazines and newspapers. An added bonus that sits well with NorthLink’s other eco-friendly initiatives, such as reducing their use of single use plastic, and sourcing more than 84 per cent of on-board products from suppliers based within 50 miles of their operating ports.

  • The PressReader App is available free from the Google Play, Apple Store or Kindle App Store.
  • PressReader enables people to find their favorite titles and discover new ones from around the world.
  • Users can download complete issues and toggle between the original page view and a mobile-optimized text view. They will also be able to bring it all to life with listening mode, one-touch translation, and dynamic commenting.
  • Once downloaded onto a device, the magazines and newspapers belong to the passengers forever; so they get free holiday reading courtesy of NorthLink Ferries.
