NorthLink Ferries announces exclusive concert starring Western Isles folk-rock band Peat & Diesel
Serco NorthLink Ferries customers will have the unique opportunity to attend a complimentary gig featuring the popular folk-rock band, Peat & Diesel this summer.
NorthLink is transporting Stornoway legends – Innes, Uilly and Boydie – to Shetland to give their customers the opportunity to enjoy the unique sound of Peat & Diesel in Lerwick’s quayside arts venue, the Mareel, on Friday 8 August. The gig has been arranged following the success of last year’s spellbinding concert which saw Orkney’s very own fiddle-led folk band FARA perform at St Magnus Cathedral.
Hailing from the Isle of Lewis, Peat & Diesel have earned themselves a dedicated following thanks to their lively performances. Known for combining traditional Scottish folk with Celtic punk-infused energy, their lyrics, delivered in mix of English and Scots Gaelic, are reflective of life in the Western Isles.
Scottish singer-songwriter Cody Feechan from Glasgow will open the evening in what is set to be a very special event.
NorthLink Ferries customers will have the chance to apply for complimentary tickets with the details being shared in their subscriber-only newsletter. Those who are registered to receive the newsletter will receive an email later in May containing a special access code for tickets. Customers can sign up to receive a newsletter from the NorthLink Ferries website.
Speaking about the upcoming gig, Stuart Garrett, managing director of Serco NorthLink Ferries said: “We introduced our summer concerts last year as a way of saying thank you to our customers, whilst also celebrating the rich musical heritage of Scotland.
“This is a rare opportunity for our customers to see this hugely popular band play in the Northern Isles. Known for selling out Glasgow’s 2,000 capacity venue the Barrowlands in just minutes – customers will have to be fast if they want to be lucky enough to secure a ticket for this one-off complimentary gig.”
Speaking ahead of the announcement the band said: “We’re buzzing to announce that we’ll be heading to Shetland this summer for a very special gig in association with NorthLink Ferries.
“Join us on Friday 8 August at Mareel in Lerwick for a night of wild tunes, stomping beats, and good craic as we bring our folk-rock madness to the Northern Isles.
“Big thanks to NorthLink Ferries for making this happen – it’s part of their summer concert series and spaces are limited!”
